New EU GI scheme for handicraft

Starting from 1 December 2025, European artisans and manufacturers, including glassblowers, potters, cutlers, jewellers, and other craftspeople, can now register the names of their products under a new EU Geographical Indications (GI) scheme. For the first time, this form of protection, previously reserved for food and beverages, has been extended to craft and industrial goods, marking the completion of the Single Market framework for GIs.
