Trademark Statistics 2024 published

On October 1, 2025, Brazil’s Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI), published the statistical 2024 year review of Brazil's IP activities.

Key findings:

Brazil’s trademark landscape in 2024 underscores a predominantly domestic filing market—94% of filings come from Brazilian applicants, with just 6% from abroad—yet foreign activity is strategically concentrated. The U.S. leads non-resident filings, followed by an increasingly assertive China. Over the past decade, total filings have surged, driven chiefly by residents, resulting in a busier registry with more collisions and a stronger need for pre-filing searches, monitoring, and careful specification drafting.

From an industry angle, Nice Class 35 (advertising & business management) and Class 41 (education, sports & culture) remain the principal magnets for filings. The top depositors tell a complementary story: on the resident side, consumer-facing and media/sports players (e.g., WE PINK, Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, Globo) continue to scale their brand portfolios; among non-residents, Amazon and Novartis highlight ongoing investment by global e-commerce and pharma leaders.
