Updated Trademark Procedures

The Ministry of National Economy in the West Bank has recently implemented significant amendments to its trademark registration process which are as follows:

1.Trademark applications can be filed without any documents or copies thereof.

However, a formal extension letter requesting a one-month extension to provide the missing documents must be concurrently submitted along with the trademark application. This one-month extension may be further extended for up to 12 months by submitting a separate letter and a fee of JD 10 (approximately USD 14) per month within the initial deadline for each subsequent month.

Requests exceeding 12 months require a detailed justification outlining the specific reasons for the extended timeframe. Applications lacking sufficient justification for extensions beyond 12 months will be denied.

2.Applicants now also have the option to request a one-month suspension of trademark application so as not to take any action related thereto due to connection with a relevant procedure which can be further extended within the deadline up to 12 months for one month each time.

Additional extensions can be requested subject to approval of the TM registrar if convinced with the detailed justifications submitted with the extension request for the purpose of reaching an amicable settlement with an adverse party or lodging an opposition or initiating a cancellation action.
